Wiener Neustadt (German pronunciation: [viːnɐ nɔʏ̯ʃtat]) is a city located south of Vienna, in Lower Austria in northeastern Austria. It is a self-governing city and the seat of the district administration of Wiener Neustadt-Land. The city is the site of one of the world's oldest military academies, the Theresian Military Academy, founded by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1752 to train officers of the Austrian army. .... Wiener Neustadt Hauptbahnhof (German: central station) connects Wiener Neustadt with other major population centers. It is owned and operated by the Austrian Federal Railway. Wiener Neustadt is also served by the motorway. The city has two airports (the military Wiener Neustadt West Airport, the first airport in Austria and civilian Wiener Neustadt East Airport) and is the starting point for Austria's only shipping channel, Wiener Neustadt canal, which was supposed to reach out to Trieste but was never completed .
