Vivonne Bay is a town in the Australian state of South Australia is situated on the south coast of Kangaroo Island with a view of the body of water is called in Australia the Southern Ocean and international authorities Great Australian Bight, which includes the Gulf called Vivonne Bay. It lies about 174 km (108 miles) southwest of state capital Adelaide and about 55 kilometers (34 miles) southwest of the municipal seat Kingscote.Human settlement started in what is now the town as the city Vivonne who were surveyed in August 1908, named after the adjacent bay and proclaimed as a government town of Governor Bosanquet May 19, 1909. town limits created in May 2002, include both the previous government town of Vivonne and Harriet River Shack Site, was given the "long established name", also from the neighboring bay .Vivonne Bay bounded by the south coast of Kangaroo Island and includes the following functions coast (from west to east) - Cape Kersaint, Point Ellen and bay called Vivonne Bay. Two rivers, Harriet and Eleanor, flows throughout the resort to discharge into the bay. A dune system called the Little Sahara is located near the town's eastern border. South Coast Road passes through the town from west to east and connects to a settlement on the site of the former shack site via a side street. Facilities in connection with the arrangement includes a general store located on the South Coast Road, an outdoor education facility operated by Sealink Travel Group and a campsite run by the Kangaroo Island Council. The protected area called Vivonne Bay Conservation Park is located on the coast immediately west of both the Point Ellen and bay.The settlement was threatened in December 2007 by one of the fires included in the 2007 Kangaroo Island bushfires with the result of the evacuation of the population after South Australian Country Fire Service established the area was difficult to defend, and the destruction of a home as residents criticized by the acting state premier, Kevin Foley for being "stupid and reckless" for not sufficiently clear vegetation around their homes.The use majority country's agriculture with land along the coast including Vivonne Bay conservation Park being zoned for conservation to "enhance and preserve the natural features of the coast".
