It is located on the Vorotan River, 6 km south of Yerevan-Meghri highway, a road distance of 217 km southeast of the capital, Yerevan, and 115 km north of the provincial center Kapan. Yerevan-Stepanakert motorway (motorway M-2) connecting with the Republic of Armenia Artsakh is 6 km northeast Sisian. The Sisian runway was opened in 1982 next to the highway. The city is connected with the surrounding villages and towns with a network of regional roads, paved through mountains passes.
