Seclantas is a small village located in north-western Argentina, 150 km southwest of Salta city. Among the mountains, valleys and canyons, lived different nations. All these communities were called Diaguitas, which means "people who live in the mountains." They spoke Cacan language and occupied a large area. Each town or village was under the supervision of a chief or "cacique", which had its privileges and obligations. Especially was calchaquí valleys occupied by several tribes, had each of them their own boss. In the region where Seclantas nowadays, lived a tribe, whose chief was called "Seclanta" Seclantas located in the center of the Valles Calchaquíes, 150 km southwest of Salta city. The road goes through the winding Cuesta del Obispo and "Cardones", turn left on route 42, where its magical colorful scenery is fun until the visitor comes to Seclantas. Sitting under the trees while listening to a story of a few craftsmen who catch their dreams in the warp of a fabric or poncho is really overwhelming. This is why it is called "Seclantas, cradle of Salta Poncho" Population: According to the last census (2011), there are 1,800 people in Seclantas, Villa El Monte, Seclantas Adentro, San Isidro, El Colte and Montenieva. This amount is increased up to 3400 if we add Brealito and Finca Luracatao.
