Pinamar is an Argentine coastal resort town located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the Buenos Aires province. It has about 25,397 inhabitants per the 2010 census [National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina]. Located less than 400 km (249 mi) south of Buenos Aires, is one of several small seaside communities that line the coast. Since Pinamar's main attraction is the sea, it is a fairly quiet town in the winter months. Tourism fuels the economy in the summer. Several other coastal cities are just next Pinamar. If you move to the south, you will have the towns of Ostend, Valeria del Mar, and finally Cariló. Two facts set Pinamar apart from most other Argentine beach towns: there is a planned city with a very strict building code, and it has been artificially turned from wild dunes in a forest (mostly of pine trees, which explains the "pain" of the city name ). Urban planning, as defined by the founding architect Jorge Bunge and maintained by elected authorities then translates into a town mostly consists of housing with open gardens, together with pine forests, combine to make the town a very nice setting. That explains why it has been chosen as a holiday destination for many well-to-do Argentines, especially those who live in Buenos Aires.
