Penguin Island Conservation Park (formerly Penguin Island National Park Reserve) is a protected area occupying Penguin Island and part of the Cape Martin on the mainland in Rivoli Bay on the southeast coast of South Australia, about one kilometer (0.62 miles) south of Beachport.The land on Penguin Island were subject to protection by the settlement of Penguin Island Lighthouse in 1960 due to the recognition of the South Australian government on 'the importance of Penguin Island as a seabird sanctuary'. Initially, the island resumed under the Crown Lands Act 1929-1957 and then was declared a closed area under the Act 1919-1953 Animals and Birds Protection. In 1961, the island was established as a wildlife sanctuary. On 9 November 1967, the island proclaimed under the National Parks Act 1966 as Penguin Island National Park Reserve. Mark in connection with Cape Martin was added to the protected area in 1970 and 1976 respectively.The conservation park is classified as a Category IA IUCN protected area. ....
