Oran (also UK: US :, French: [ɔʁɑ]; Arabic: وهران, romanized: Wahran) is an important coastal city located in northwestern Algeria. It is considered the second most important city in Algeria after the capital Algiers, due to its commercial, industrial and cultural significance. It is 432 km (268 mi) from Algiers. The total population of the city was 759,645 in 2008, while the metropolitan area has a population of around 1.5 million making it the second largest city in Algeria.A legend says that in 900 CE, the lion still lived in the area. The city's public transport is centered on the Oran Metro includes the coastal areas of the connecting Oran tramway covers the suburbs have not yet served by the subway. Es Senia Airport also serves passengers from most smaller towns in proximity to Oran (Sig, Mostaganem, Arzew, etc.). Airport building is a fairly limited construction and does not operate on a 24 hour basis.
