Town in New South Wales, Australia

Murwillumbah (mər-WIL-əm-bah) is a city in the far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia in Tweed Shire, on the Tweed River, 848 km northeast of Sydney, 13 km south of the border with Queensland and 132 km south of Brisbane. At the 2016 census, Murwillumbah had a population of 9.245 people. The city's name is often shortened to M'bah or Murbah.Murwillumbah sits on the southeastern foothills of the McPherson Range in Tweed Volcano Valley. The area is hilly. Many of the buildings are art deco style, and there are cafés, clothing and antique shops in the city. Murwillumbah is the eighth city mentioned in the original Australia version of the song "I've been everywhere." Murwillumbah used as the location for the film Lou (2010), starring John Hurt. ABC TV series of the new-operation of the Blue Crane was also filmed in the Tweed region in 1969. In 2018, the city was used as a film location for Netflix distributed Lunatics (2019) starring Chris Lilley. The city is also close to the set of the British reality show I'm a Celebrity ... Transportation in Murwillumbah

The town bypassed by the Pacific Highway in August 2002. Today the main road access from both the north and south is via the scenic Tweed Valley Way, which previously was part of the original route. There is an inner path which passes along Numinbah Valley through the towns Chillingham, Numinbah and Natural Bridge that is scenic tourist unit. Another major road west of the city heads to Kyogle via the town Uki, and also passes near the town of Nimbin. Murwillumbah station was the terminus of the Casino-Murwillumbah branch line, and had daily train services to Sydney until the line was closed in 2004. Today, NSW TrainLink buses to and from Casino provides connections to the daily trains to Sydney. The station is now used as a tourist. Several bus lines serving the area. Murwillumbah Bus Company provides regular service to many parts of the city, as well Condong and Uki. Parsons Bus Service provides services to Pottsville, Cabarita Beach, Stokers Siding. Gosel's Bus Service provides services to Nimbin through Uki heading 630. Singh Buses provides services to Chillingham, Tyalgum and Eungella. Surfside buslines operate hourly service to Tweed Heads through Terranora heading 605th Taxi services are also available. Murwillumbah's airfields, Whittle Field (ICAO code YMUR), is named after a known local World War Spitfire pilot, the late Bob Whittle. There is no regular traffic, but 800 meter grass track supports Murwillumbah Aero Club and activities, including crop dusting aircraft restoration, education and chartered scenic flights.
