Mount Beerwah is the highest of the ten volcanic plugs in Glass House Mountains Range, 22 km north of Caboolture in southeast Queensland, Australia. It was formed 26 million years ago during the Oligocene epoch of Paleogene period. Geologists estimate that there may have been three times the height before it eroded to a volcanic plug. Mount Beerwah has two peaks, the higher of which is 556 meters (1,824 feet) high. It is one of the most visually prominent mountain in southeast Queensland. The first white person to rise the top was Andrew Petrie with his son John Petrie. Its name comes from Dungidau language words "Birra, or 'sky' and 'wandum', 'climbing up.' In traditional Aboriginal history of the region is Mount Beerwah the pregnant mother and Mount Tibrogargan father all the other mountains in the area. Local Aboriginal people consider sacred mountains. The mountain is basically a column of trachyte. One side has a dramatic, inward leaning rock wall called the Organ Pipes.
