Mornington Peninsula is a peninsula located south-east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is surrounded by Port Phillip in the West, Western Port in the east and Bass Strait in the south, and is connected to the mainland in the north. Geographically, the peninsula begins its protruding from the mainland in the area between Pearcedale and south of Frankston area. The area was originally home to Mayone-bulluk and Boonwurrung-Balluk clans and formed part of Boonwurrung nation's territory before European settlement. A large part of the peninsula has been cleared for agriculture and settlements. But small areas of native ecology remain in the peninsula's southern and western part of which is protected by the Mornington Peninsula National Park. In 2002, about 180,000 people lived on the peninsula and in the surrounding areas, most of the populated cities on its western shores, sometimes regarded as peripheral suburbs of greater Melbourne; There is a seasonal population of about 270,000. 30 June 2017 were Mornington Peninsula population was recorded at 163.847 persons. But in the peak of summer, the population increases to 225.000 to 250.000 people every year to become the most populous coastal holiday area in Victoria with a larger population than Hobart.The peninsula is primarily a local tourist area, with popular natural attractions such as the place of beaches both sheltered and the open sea and numerous scenic spots and views. Other popular attractions include different vineyards, mazes and variety of water sports offered by the diversity of beaches and calm waters of Port Phillip and Westernport. Transportation in Mornington Peninsula

Peninsula serviced primarily through a network of roads. Public transport is limited to a bus serving the towns on the western beaches and a train for the eastern part of the peninsula. The following modes are available for access to different parts of the peninsula: Road: The Peninsula is easily accessed via the peninsula link going Eastlink at Carrum Downs, as well as from Melbourne by car via the Nepean Highway. Another way is through Frank Freeway to Frankston, and then through the Moorooduc Highway. Another option is via Monash Freeway (M1) and Western Port Highway to the eastern side of the peninsula. An alternative route from Monash Freeway is via the East Link to Frankston Freeway. Bus: A bus service runs along the entire length of the peninsula to Portsea, departing from Frankston railway station in metropolitan Melbourne. A number of bus lines run halfway peninsula from Frankston railway station along the Nepean Highway. These run to various destinations including Mt Martha and Mornington, via Mount Eliza. Train: Stony Point railway runs from Frankston to Hastings and Stony Point, from where a ferry can be taken to French and Phillip Island. A bus also goes to Flinders on the south coast. Railway lines at once also extended and Mornington Red Hill, but these have now been completed. Ferry: The Searoad Ferry Service operates two vehicle and passenger ferries on an hourly service between Mornington and Bellarine peninsulas, departs from Queens on the Bellarine and arrive to Sorrento on the Mornington.
