Monte Hermoso is a city located on the Atlantic coast of Argentina, about 100 km (62 mi) east of the city of Bahia Blanca, in the south of the province of Buenos Aires. It is the administrative seat of the Partido Monte Hermoso. Founded in the early twentieth century, Monte Hermoso a family resort with more than 32 km (20 mi) beach overlooking the Atlantic and with the unique property in Argentina to have both sunrises and sunsets over the ocean. The summer climate in Monte Hermoso is more temperate than the other major beach resorts because of the sea breeze effect, while water itself is warmer, making for a pleasant beach experience. Monte Hermoso owe their existence to the 1879 purchase of 4,000 sea hectares (10,000 acres) of Esteban DUFAUR. His son, Sulpicio created El Recreo estancia in 1910 and 1918, began welcoming guests to the inaugural Hotel de Madera; The hotel was built by Dafaur timber salvaged from a shipwreck on the beach. The closure were established as such in 1975 and given the autonomy 1 April 1979.The lighthouse, Faro Recalada a Bahia Blanca is 73 m (240 ft) high and the highest in South America, located on the coast road Sauce Grande about 7 km (4 mi) east of the town, where it marks the way to the nearby port of Bahia Blanca.
