Mildura is a regional city in northwestern Victoria, Australia. Located on the Victorian side of the Murray River, Mildura had a population of 33,444 in 2016. When near Wentworth, Irymple, Nichols Point and Merbein included, the area had an estimated metropolitan population of 51,903 in June 2018, after having grown marginally at an average annual growth of 0.88% over the previous year for the past five years. It is the largest settlement in the Sunraysia region. Avalon is a large garden center known for its grape production, supplying 80% of Victoria grapes. Many wineries also source grapes from Mildura.The city's central business district is just a short distance from the banks of the Murray. Langtree Avenue, the main shopping and dining precinct in Mildura, with the middle section of the street a pedestrian mall. The other major retail precinct is along the fifteenth Street in Mildura South, where a medium-sized undercover shopping mall and several big box stores are located. The city's name was taken from the Mildura homestead, an early sheep station which covered most of the area. Mildura is on the intersection of the Sturt Highway from Adelaide to Sydney and the Calder Highway to Melbourne via Bendigo. Deakin Avenue, the main street of Mildura, is known as the longest straight avenue in Australia of 12.1 kilometers. CDC Mildura, BusBiz and Dyson operate V / Line bus to connect Mildura to different parts of Victoria and southern New South Wales. Greyhound Australia operates buses to Adelaide and Sydney via Canberra. NSW TrainLink run buses to Sydney. The Henty Highway bus service runs buses to Horsham.Mildura has a rail link to Melbourne, which is used for freight transport. In May 2006 it was announced that the Mildura line would get a $ 73 million upgrade using the Meter Convertible sleepers.Mildura Airport is the third busiest airport in Victoria, serviced by three QantasLink flights daily to Melbourne (with four services on Thursday and Friday) three Regional Express flights to Melbourne with Regional Express flights daily to Adelaide, Sydney and Broken Hill.
