The Mieming Plateau (German: Mieminger Plateau) is a plateau between 850 and 1,000 meters high above the upper Inn valley in the Austrian province of Tyrol at the southern foot of the Mieming Chain. It is located in the municipalities of Wildermieming, Mieming, Obsteig and Mötz. The low terrace mountain consists of ground moraine and gravel, presumably from the Würm glaciation. The south terrace defined by the so-called Achberg interval (Achbergzug), a chain of mountain made of dolomite head of which is the other side Inn valley. The plateau is about 14 kilometers long and up to 4 kilometers wide. Except near Telfs and Mötz it drops steeply 200 meters down to the valley and ends Inn in west at the Holzleiten Saddle, where the road continues to the Gurgltal and the Fern Pass section. From Telfs and Mötz are transit routes probably have been used since Roman times (Via Claudia Augusta), as testified by an undated milestone near Holzleiten to run across the plateau to the Fern Pass and on to Augsburg. The region is characterized by its small scale division in areas of pasture and crops alternating with larch meadows and open forest. A network of footpaths and cycle paths, and in winter, cross-country skiing routes, cross-crossing the plateau, making it a popular recreation area. The fictional village of Sonnen in the TV series Doctor Berg ( "Mountain Doctor") is set to plateau. .... Learn more at Wikipedia
