La Banda is a town in the province of Santiago del Estero, Argentina. It has about 95,000 inhabitants per the 2001 census [National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina], making it the second largest in the province. It is the head town of Banda department. La Banda is just 8 km from the provincial capital of Santiago del Estero, separated from it by the course of the Dulce River, which is crossed by two connecting bridges. The two cities form a metropolitan area with about 280,000 inhabitants. Close to it, Dulce turned into an artificial lake of the Los Quiroga Dam. In addition to access to Highway 9 to Santiago del Estero, the city linked to Tucumán and Buenos Aires with a weekly train service in the Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Miter.
