Kremsmunster is a city in Kirchdorf an der Krems District in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. Settled in 777, it is home to Kremsmunster Abbey. The Abbey was founded in 777 by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria and is one of the oldest monasteries in Central Europe. In a striking ice age terrace above the town dominates the entire Krems valley. The monks (Benedictine), lead a famous high school that has been around since 1549, and an astronomical and geophysical observatory ( "Mathematical Tower").
