Corowa is a town in the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is on the banks of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. It is the largest city in the Federation Council, and was the administrative center of the former Corowa Shire. The name could have been derived from an Aboriginal word referring to Curra pine that gave the rubber used by Aborigines to attach the head of the spear to the shoulders. Another translation is rocky River.There are two bridges over Murray to Wahgunyah in Victoria: Heritage-listed John Foord Bridge and Federation Bridge (opened April 2, 2005). The city with the nearby city Rutherglen has an Australian Rules Football (Corowa-Rutherglen) competing in the Ovens & Murray Football League.
