Cootamundra is a town in southwestern Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia and Riverina. It is within the Regional Cootamundra-Gundagai. At the 2016 census, Cootamundra had a population of 6782nd It is located on the Olympic Highway at the point where it crosses Muttama Creek, between Junee and Cowra. Cootamundra is not on the Hume Highway, but the train station is on the main southern line, part of the Melbourne to Sydney line. Abb McAlister was elected mayor of the newly formed Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council September 21 2017.Cootamundra is the birthplace of Sir Don Bradman, the Australian actor widely regarded as the greatest batsman of all time. Although he never lived in the city and his parents left Yeo Yeo (about 18 km from Cootamundra) when he was two, the town celebrates this relationship with Sir Donald Bradman Birthplace Museum, home where "The Don" was born, a fully restored the visitors' place with cricket memorabilia and artifacts.Cootamundra is home to Cootamundra Wattle. Cootamundra railway station is on the main southern railway line, with passengers being served in each direction by twice daily NSW Train XPT rail services between Sydney and Melbourne, and the weekly Xplorer train service to Griffith.
