Auburn City Council (formally the City of Auburn) was a municipal area of Greater Western Sydney region of New South Wales, Australia. Before the 2016 merger was the council area is about 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Sydney's central business district and had a multicultural population. Notable features in the area include Gallipoli Mosque, located in the suburb of Auburn. The suburb of Sydney Olympic Park, site of the main venues for the Summer Olympics in 2000, was located in the council area. On February 10, 2016 Auburn City Council canceled by the Minister for Local Government, and an administrator is appointed. A public inquiry was held into allegations of "Council of abusing their positions." Before the suspension, the mayor of Auburn City Council was Councilor Le Lam. On 12 May 2016 part of a NSW State Government program for municipal reform, the Auburn City Council is abolished. Parts of the Auburn City Council, Parramatta City Council and Holroyd City Council together to Cumberland Council as a new local government area.
