Benalla is a small town located on the Broken River gateway to the High Country northeastern region of Victoria, Australia, about 212 kilometers (130 mi) northeast of the state capital Melbourne. Benalla is just over two hours from Melbourne by road or train. Hume Freeway (National Highway M31) now passes Benalla the south, while Midland Highway (A300) runs through the center. Rail transport includes both passenger rail and freight. Benalla railway station located on the northeastern railway, and three Albury V / Line train services stop at Benalla daily, as well as twice daily NSW Train XPT service between Melbourne and Sydney. Benalla Bus Lines runs a local service every hour on two lines, serving the western and eastern sides of the city. The bus station is outside the ANZ Bank in Nunn Street. Benalla Airport YBLA (BLN) started life as a big RAAF training base during World War II. It is now also serves as the home of the Gliding Club of Victoria, and a ballooning and microlight center, and is the home of Benalla Aviation Museum.
