About Beijing National Aquatics Center

architectural structure

The Beijing National Aquatics Center (simplified Chinese: 北京国家游泳中心; traditional Chinese: 北京國家游泳中心; pinyin: Běijīng guójiā yóuyǒng zhōngxīn), also officially known as the National Aquatics Center, and colloquially known as the Water Cube (Chinese: 水立方), is an aquatics center at the Olympic Green in Beijing, China. The facility was originally constructed to host the aquatics competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. During the Olympics — where it hosted diving, swimming, and synchronised swimming events — 25 world records were broken in swimming (although these were attributed primarily to controversial bodyskin swimwear that was widely-adopted by competitors during the Beijing Olympics). In July 2010, a renovation of the facility was completed, which included the addition of a 12,000 m2 (130,000 sq ft) public water park. With Beijing awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics, part of the Water Cube was renovated in 2019 to allow the hosting of curling events. .... Learn more at Wikipedia
