Beachport is a small coastal town in the Australian state of South Australia approximately 311 kilometers (193 miles) southeast of the state capital of Adelaide and about 34 kilometers (21 miles) northwest of the municipal seat in Millicent, located at the northern end of Rivoli Bay. Beachport has a large crayfish fishing fleet, and is known for its 772-meter (2,533 ft) -Long bridge, the second longest in South Australia after a Port Germein. .... Learn more at Wikipedia
Beach was officially proclaimed a port 21 November 1878. The same year, a lighthouse was built nearby on Penguin Island and a railway from Mount Gambier conducted. A wool and log cabin built in 1879, served by the railway, which provides an opportunity to link the export by rail and by sea. The railway was closed in 1957. The old wool and log cabin has been preserved and today serves as a National Trust museum.
