Batemans Bay is a town in the south coast region of New South Wales, Australia. Batemans Bay is administered by the Eurobodalla Shire Council. The city is situated on the banks of an estuary formed where Clyde River meets the South Pacific. Batemans Bay is located on the Princes Highway (Highway 1) about 280 kilometers (170 miles) from Sydney and 760 kilometers (470 mi) from Melbourne. Canberra is located approximately 151 km (94 mi) west of Batemans Bay, via the Kings Highway. At the 2016 census, Batemans Bay had a population of 11,294. A major urban area around Batemans Bay also including Long Beach, Maloney Beach and coastal fringe extends south to Rosedale had a population of 16,485 on June 2018th It is the nearest coastal town to Canberra, making Batemans Bay a popular holiday destination for residents of Australia's national capital. Batemans Bay is located at the intersection of the Princes Highway that runs down the south coast of New South Wales and Kings Highway, which runs from Canberra to coast. Batemans Bay is the only place where the coastal traffic can pass the Clyde River. From 1915 to 1954 a motorized punt allow traffic to cross the river. The current Batemans Bay Bridge was opened in 1956. It is a steel vertical lift truss bridge with a height of 34 meters maximum. 2019, work began on a replacement concrete bridge with a distance of 12 meters.
