City in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Bahia Blanca (Spanish pronunciation: [bai.a βlaŋka], English: White Bay) is a city in the southwestern part of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, by the Atlantic Ocean, and is the seat of government of Bahia Blanca Partido. It had 301.572 inhabitants according to the 2010 census [National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina]. It is the main city in Greater Bahía Blanca town. The city has a major port of depth (15 m), 45 feet, kept constant upstream almost the full length of the bay, where the Napostá Stream drain. Bahía Blanca means "White Bay". The name is due to the typical color of the salt covering the ground around the beaches. The bay (which is actually an estuary) was seen by Ferdinand Magellan during his first circumnavigation of the world on the orders of Charles I of Spain, 1520, looking for a canal linking the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts of South America. .... Transportation in Bahía Blanca

Bahia Blanca served by Comandante Espora Airport (BHI / SAZB). There are two daily short-haul flights from Bahia Blanca (BHI) to the domestic airport in Buenos Aires (AEP). The Navy also operates weekly flights from Buenos Aires to service people who commute between the two cities. The local airport's runway belonging to the Navy Aviation (BACE stands for Aero Naval Base Comandante Espora). It is a civilian terminal supported by the City Council, apart from the military one. The civilian terminal is undergoing major renovation. The bus terminal in the city, recently renovated and redesigned, services throughout the country. The bus transport system has a wider range of short, medium and long-distance connections and destinations that offer plenty of overnight trips from Bahia Blanca to Buenos Aires, hundreds of cities across the country and even neighboring countries like Uruguay. A network of highways together in the city that connects it to the region and the rest of the country. In recent years, various administrations have tried to create and improve an outer ring road by which traffic is facilitated avoiding unnecessary congestion allowing lorries or trucks as well as cars, to direct in and out of the port area. Vehicles passing by can also avoid entering the city via the ring road. There are also projects to improve the road link between the city and the airport. Several local bus lines make up the city's transport system. The highway, Ruta Nacional 3, divided in three North, leading to Olavarría and Buenos Aires, and 3 South leading to Viedma, Trelew, Comodoro Rivadavia, Rio Gallegos, Rio Grande and Ushuaia. Another routes National Routes 35, leading to the Santa Rosa and Rio Cuarto, 33, leading to trenque lauquen and Rosario and 22, leading to Neuquén.
