Bad Ischl [BAT ɪʃl̩] is a spa town in Austria. It is located in the southern part of Upper Austria, at the Traun River in the center of the Salzkammergut region. The town consists of Katastralgemeinden Ahorn, Bad Ischl Haiden, Jainzen, Kaltenbach, Lauffen, Lindau, Pfandl, Perneck, Reiterndorf and Rettenbach. It is connected to the river village Strobl Ischl draining from Wolfgangsee and Traunsee, in which current is discharged. It is home to the Kaiser, summer residence of the Austro-Hungarian monarch Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth.
