Raymond Island (Gunai / Kurnai languages: Bunjil-Baul) is a small island in the Gippsland Lakes in eastern Victoria, Australia, about 300 kilometers (190 mi) from Melbourne. The island is about 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) long and 2 km (1.2 mi) wide, and it is only 200 m (660 feet) offshore, across from the city Payneville. The island is named after William Odell Raymond, originally a judge from New South Wales, which has established itself as a squatter in Gippsland in 1840s.Raymond Island is known locally for its large koala population was initially introduced to the island in 1953 and Raymond Island Ferry, a chain ferry which connects the island to Paynesville on the mainland. ....
